Archie's Anchors for AHC

One-year-old Archie has been diagnosed with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC). The "mother of all neurological conditions" is like having seven neurological conditions in one. It can have symptoms that replicate Parkinson's, Cerebal Palsy, Epilepsy, Alzheimer's, a stroke, Autism, and ADHD. AHC is most commonly diagnosed through genetic testing, and more specifically a mutation in the ATP1A3 gene.

Archie's mutation is one of one. Nobody in the world is like him. He has the fight of a champion.

Fifty percent of AHC patients present with clinical epilepsy, which is what first brought Archie to the wonderful doctors at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. After rounds of testing, his diagnosis created an air of uncertainty. Numerous specialist appointments, medications, and travel to find the most knowledgeable experts in the country generates expenses that can quickly drown a family.

While Archie's mutation is unique, his story is not. There are families all across the world feeling the same anxiety and stress that this degenerative disease creates to include not knowing how they can make it through another week of episodes, how they will get to the next specialist, or how they will find the right treatment for their child. The funds we raise here are dedicated to employing the best therapies, treatments, and finding an eventual cure for this cruel disease. We want to secure the best future for Archie and the other champions fighting similar AHC fights day in and day out. We are one individual family, but on a grander scale we want to ensure the AHC community family has all the help and resources it needs to navigate this rare diagnosis.
