November In My Soul is a deeply reported narrative podcast that explores mental illness, confinement, and liberty. Over the course of ten episodes, Jenny and Lee take listeners on a journey from the era of over-institutionalization in state mental hospitals to our current crisis. The podcast also explores how people in power define and respond to mental illness over time, and why the most marginalized among us still suffer disproportionately. Through stellar journalism that centers the voices of those with lived experience, the podcast connects history with current practice and points the way toward dignity-based solutions and common ground. Stories are told out of California but are nationally relevant — and surprising.
