Awake | Short Animated Documentary

“Awake” is a five-minute animated documentary that brings to life the powerful words of Mahmoud Khalil–written during a long sleepless night in ICE detention in Louisiana, as he struggles with being separated from his family and meditates on the true meaning of democracy and justice in today’s America. Through striking animation and a cinematic visual style, the film will seek to elevate the voice of a resolute political prisoner and serve as a wake-up call for democracy.
