Help Us Keep Pets Safe, Fed, and With the Families Who Love Them
Welcome to BarkSide Rescue!
BarkSide Rescue is a fiscally sponsored 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Reno, Nevada, dedicated to helping local pets by supporting the people who love them. We believe that temporary hardship should never mean losing a beloved companion.
Our primary mission is to provide short-term transitional foster care for dogs whose owners are facing temporary life challenges, such as medical treatment, hospitalization, temporary housing that does not allow pets, or other unexpected crises. By providing a safe place for these dogs while their owners regain stability, we help prevent unnecessary shelter surrenders and work toward our ultimate goal—reuniting pets with the families who love them.
While in our care, each dog will receive comprehensive veterinary care, including spay or neuter services, vaccinations, and microchipping, as well as individualized training and behavioral support under the guidance of multi-award-winning canine trainer and behavior specialist Joshua Green. When reunification is not possible, we are committed to finding each dog a safe, loving, and permanent home through a thoughtful adoption process.
In addition to our foster program, BarkSide Rescue operates a Pet Food Distribution Project that directly supports pet owners experiencing financial hardship throughout the Reno community. Twice each month, our volunteers personally distribute more than 250 pounds of dry pet food and 30+ cans of wet food to families and individuals in need. This program helps keep pets fed, prevents owner surrenders, and strengthens the bond between people and their animals during difficult times.
Every donation—whether monetary, pet food, or supplies—directly supports these life-changing programs and helps ensure that local pets remain healthy, safe, and with the people who love them.
