About this campaign

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Care for Canines:

The organization was founded to address fragmentation within the animal welfare system through coordination, partnerships, networks, and collaborative frameworks that enable access to affordable preventative healthcare and humane spay/neuter programs to reduce the overwhelming, preventable overpopulation of unwanted, stray, and abandoned dogs, while promoting adoption for dogs already in need of care.

While the organization is new, my connection to dogs is not. When people ask for my story, I begin by telling them that I was raised in New England by a pack of Siberian Huskies. At age 12, my best friend was a neighbor's dachshund-beagle named Gretchen, who ended up adopting me. Since then, dogs have been a constant part of my life, whether through friends, roommates, or the many four-legged companions I have met along the way.

When I began working in Afghanistan in 2007, I became involved with the dog care crowd and experienced both the joy and heartbreak that comes with animal welfare work, the countless dogs in need of medical care, shelter food and most importantly, kindness. That lifelong connection has now become my life's work.

As an official representative of OIPA (International Organization for Animal Protection) and founder of Care for Canines, I am working with animal welfare organizations in Afghanistan to help coordinate and re-establish spay/neuter programs that humanely reduce stray dog overpopulation while improving the lives of dogs already in need. At the same time, we are building a network in the United States to expand access to affordable preventative veterinary care and spay/neuter services.

Although there are many challenges ahead, and the opportunity to make systemic changes.

I look forward to sharing more as Care for Canines grows.
