Be the reason a student steps outside. Movespots Climate Awareness Field Days help the youth plant trees, learn heat safety, and fight loneliness. Donate today.
Help us help students unplug from their screens and plug into their communities, while learning climate enhancing practices, at our Climate Awareness Field Days.
Why Does It Matter?
Young people are glued to their screens and summer heat is intensifying.
In the CDC's 2023 National Health and Wellness Survey, 39.7% of high school students reported having frequent severe feelings of sadness and hopelessness and more than half of Gen Z adults say they feel lonely on weekends. Nature offers a cure: a study of nearly 20,000 people found that two hours a week spent outdoors was connected with people having a 23% higher chance of reporting high wellbeing and 59% higher likelihood of reporting good health than those who didn't connect with nature.
What We Do
Founder Carl White III launched Field Days at his own high school, Arabia Mountain in DeKalb County, Georgia, to let kids unplug from screens and connect with each other, learning about climate-conscious stewardship in the process. In a single outdoor day, students plant trees, learn to protect themselves from extreme heat, and share freely about mental health.
What We've Done
Our Spring 2026 pilot engaged 85 students at two high schools. After planting five trees, learning to make their own hydration drinks, and everyone going home safely, Emory University picked up the pilot's costs and highlighted the program in its 2026 Impact Report, and Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Botanical Garden provided the students with gifts. "The kids loved it and I hope you all come back," said Arabia Mountains principal.
Where We're Going
We are raising $100,000 to bring Field Days to 10 schools in 2026–27. Each Field Day costs about $10,000 to cover trees, hydration supplies, student and staff gear, travel, photography, and surveys, and our first donors are already on board.
