The Breast Cancer Survivor (BCS) Physical and Mental Wellness Program is an 8-week charitable program delivered by Fitness Design Solutions, LLC in Loudoun County VA. It is designed to improve physical and mental fitness for BCS while also improving social and emotional well-being without additional financial strain for the BCS.
Whether a BCS was diagnosed stage zero, stage three or anywhere in between… three months ago or 3 years ago… if they are struggling to move forward in this survivorship phase there is a place for them here.
Research shows exercise improves ongoing cancer treatment side effects like cancer related fatigue, aromatase inhibitor induced muscle pain, cognitive challenges, boosts bone health, and creates an overall improved sense of well being. Exercise also reduces the risk of cancer recurrence. We all want that!
Research also indicates, survivors are more motivated to join an exercise program where they are with people experiencing similar treatment related challenges. They’re also more likely to stick with the program if they experience social connection and support from their fellow classmates.
The benefits are clear, yet getting started after treatment is HARD. This community based charitable program was designed to meet them where they are, connect them with others on a similar path, and get them moving again safely and with confidence!
Studies show a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment takes a significant financial toll on women. We created this charitable program with this in mind. Our program provides the support to get moving again and break through the mental blocks holding breast cancer survivors back free of charge with the support of your donations. This campaign goal is to serve 48 breast cancer survivors in 2026.
This program uses evidence-based movement protocols to help BCS get back to the activities they loved before breast cancer that may feel physically out of reach. We combined this with integrated health coaching to support mental fitness and help BCS better recognize when the internal stories of a cancer journey may be holding them back from playing full out in their life. Finally, in addition to the two meetings per week for the physical (in-person) and mental (online) fitness components, participants are given access to a private app-based community to connect with their small group cohort to support and cheer one another on in between meetings. This program with physical, mental, and social support built in is a triple threat in making the leap from surviving to thriving.
As a breast cancer survivor, Pilates master trainer, National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), and public health researcher, Jennifer Cochran knows firsthand how a breast cancer diagnosis impacts overall well-being and the important role support plays in recovery. Through in person work with BCS and the many interviews she has conducted with cancer survivors, one thing is for sure, surviving is JUST the beginning.
Our participants are being diagnosed, treated, and navigating survivorship throughout the year. Please consider a monthly donation to enable us to meet the needs of BCS in our community every month, not just in October.
