A Letter for You, a program of AK-GAL Designs, sends warm stories, postcards, and pop-up "thinking of you" cards to people who can feel forgotten by the world - elders in long-term care and assisted living, veterans, and Alaskans living in rural and remote places. Social isolation isn't just lonely; for older adults and people cut off from community, it's a serious health concern, tied to depression, decline, and a shorter life. Sometimes the isolation comes from where you live. Sometimes from circumstance. Sometimes from the quiet weight of a hard season. Our mailings meet people right where they are with a little story, a little color, and the simple reminder that someone out there is thinking of them.

Every letter brings something to read and something to do: a story or reflection about Alaska - the land, the seasons, the people, the small everyday wonders - and two memory prompts that invite the reader to recall their own stories. We include a prepaid return envelope so anyone who wants to write back can, with no postage to buy and no trip to the post office. We can't wait to see what comes back.
