Louie's Legacy honors an incredible diabetic alert dog that left us far too soon. Louie joined Medi-Dogs in 2022 after his owner, Sara, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Louie learned his alerts with ease and adjusted readily to his new life as a working dog. Louie was Sara's partner until 2025 when he was tragically lost to heart failure.
In honor of how much Louie did for her, Sara asked her community to honor his passing through donations to Medi-Dogs. We were able to fully fund Ope, a started service dog, and place him with Toby a 12 year old with Type 1 Diabetes. Additionally, we had enough left over to offer $4,000 to Bluey's family to ofset her cost.
