About this campaign

Charitable tax-deductible donations to this campaign, which is proud to have Entertainment 2 Affect Change as its Fiscal Sponsor, will help close the gap to finance the post production phase of Miriam Makeba, The Voice of Africa, a 90-minute cinedoc directed by South African director Mandla Dube and being produced by Millstream Films and Media. Your donation can make a tangible difference toward this important film actually being made available to the public, as music and archival clearances must still be funded.
A packed private market screening held at AfroCannes during the Cannes Film Festival increased visibility with a number of distributors, with whom we are currently talking to about next steps on the international market.
This is a powerful story of resistance, passion, dedication, and tragedy, told through the eyes of Miriam Makeba—one of Africa's greatest singers and civil rights champions. Her music became the soundtrack for the decades-long fight to liberate Africa from colonialism. Despite repeated injustices, personal tragedy, and exile, she built a successful career as a top international performer, selling out some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls.
We're incredibly proud of this project, which captures a compelling story that has the support of Makeba's family estate and never before seen FBI records and newly digitized archival from the CIA and former Socialist Bloc country archives.

Millstream Films is a fiscally sponsored project of Entertainment 2 Affect Change (EIN: 46-2660255).
