One Family in Gaza - Documentary Film Project

We’re filmmakers Michael DeMinico, Steve Thompson, and Ziad Abdel-Aal, and we’re developing One Family in Gaza, a character-driven documentary with Crystal Zevon about her years-long friendship with Yasser Abu Raida and his family in Gaza.

For more than five years, Crystal and Yasser have stayed connected through messages, photos, and daily conversation. As the war has unfolded, their friendship has taken on a new urgency, as Yasser and his family search for a path to safety.

The film will follow their story as it unfolds in real time. We have a trusted filmmaking team in Gaza ready to begin documenting the family, with the possibility of continuing the story if Yasser and his family are able to leave Gaza and travel to Egypt, Ireland, or elsewhere.

We’re currently raising the initial funds needed to begin production and build the film.

We’re hoping to build this film collaboratively with people who connect with the story and believe in its potential. Support, introductions, creative guidance, or simply sharing the project with others who may be interested would all be tremendously helpful.
