REBEL WITHOUT A PAUSE tells the extraordinary story of Dr. Quentin Young – personal physician to Chairman Fred Hampton and Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Told through the eyes of his granddaughter, Director Maya Cueva, the film follows his involvement in the Black Panthers Party’s health clinics and his advocacy for single-payer health care, all of which brought about intense surveillance and harassment from the FBI.
REBEL WITHOUT A PAUSE delves into the life of Director Maya Cueva’s grandfather, Dr. Quentin Young, who spent years organizing with The Black Panther Party (BPP) and Chairman Fred Hampton as a movement doctor. This work brought about intense surveillance and harassment from the FBI. Undeterred, he volunteered his services as one of the lead doctors at Spurgeon Jake Winters People’s Medical Center and fought to bring healthcare to low-income communities throughout Chicago.
In REBEL WITHOUT A PAUSE, Quentin’s untold story is woven together through never-before-seen archival material, new interviews with iconic voices, such as the living members of the BPP, modern-day organizers, and the ongoing fight for free and adequate healthcare. The film will also be a personal one, as Maya goes on her own journey to understand more of who her grandfather was and the sacrifices he had to make as a doctor, organizer, and father fighting for free public healthcare for the masses.
Our immediate need is to raise $500K which will allow us to complete our final shoots and get to picture lock. On top of that we will need an additional $200K to raise the remainder of the budget for a 2027 film festival premiere.
