Why make a resource guide?
If you’re homeless in Alameda County, the primary way to get help is through 211: The hotline that connects those in need with available resources. But unhoused people don’t always have reliable access to a phone or the internet, making 211 difficult to use.
We’re going to solve this problem in 2026 by making a pocket sized resource guide that makes it easier for unhoused people to access the resources they need in Alameda County.
$50,000 will allow us to print at least 50,000 guide in 2026, and distribute them to shelters, hospitals, libraries, and more — for free. It will also allow us to hire a part-time staff person dedicated to compiling the guides to make sure they are accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date. And, it will help us pay stipends to the unhoused community leaders who will ensure the guides are designed to meets their needs.
