ABOUT THE FUND
The Altadena Soils Relief Fund, is a fiscally sponsored project of Charity on Top Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that will ensure that every fire‑impacted property in Altadena has access to safe, science‑based soil treatment. Following the Los Angeles fires, 301 Organics’ ongoing soil testing and treatment work has revealed that many properties contain elevated levels of contaminants that pose risks to human health, especially during rebuilding activities. To date 301 Organics has used a sliding scale, small business model to remediate 50+ properties and develop 12 active composting hubs throughout Altadena while providing expert soil advice and guidance to the community and fire survivors regardless of insurance status, or financial capacity.
HOW TO SUPPORT
We are now asking for broad-based support of the Fund to expedite the number of Altadena properties that receive treatment to reduce the wide-spread risk exposure to known contaminants still being recorded throughout the community across more than 15,000 structures in the burn scar and beyond. The Fund will facilitate the restoration of Altadena as a green oasis of native plants and backyard fruit orchards. Your tax-deductible donation will enable evidence-based soil treatment assistance, scholarships to train our growing workforce of Soil Health and Composting Technicians, and build the capacity needed to remediate 1000’s of properties to bring Altadena soils back to good health.
HOW WE WILL USE THE FUND
Donations will cover labor, materials for treatments and testing of impacted properties over 3-6 months and support the development of local composting hubs that produce restorative and biologically alive compost to serve more properties. We’re relying on support from people beyond the affected neighborhoods to help Eaton Fire survivors clean their contaminated soil so they can safely return home and rebuild. Every contribution makes a difference.
