The Oregonian/OregonLive has partnered with Report for America to launch the “Business & culture of women’s sports” beat.
Reporter Liana Handler will help cover the WNBA’s Portland Fire, delving into the team’s impact on college, high school and even youth sports in Portland and beyond. She'll also explore the cultural and economic impacts of women’s athletics in Portland, from youth to professional levels with a mix of sports and business stories for both passionate and casual fans.
Report for America provides financial support for a portion of the cost for the new reporting position and teaches newsroom leaders how to fundraise and seek grant money to cover the rest.
Report Local, Report for America’s parent, acts as the fiscal sponsor of our fundraising efforts. The nonprofit accepts your tax-deductible donations on behalf of The Oregonian/OregonLive and then grants those funds directly to our news organization.
