For me, cinema is the only place where we submerge ourselves in a distant reality that touches the most intimate fibers of our being. Those who know our feature film Between Sea and Land (La Ciénaga entre el mar y la tierra) are well acquainted with our artistic compass: telling stories of an intimate and visceral urgency. As the creator, actor, and director of that film—awarded the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award and the Special Jury Award for Acting at the Sundance Film Festival—I take on this new project with the exact same unwavering conviction.

What produces the shadow: light or darkness?

Today, with Bible Trafficker, we elevate that very commitment into a territory of radical and unsettling tension. The film is built upon an implacable clash: the cold commodification and calculated violence of drug trafficking set against the sacred, universal, and deeply human burden of faith.
To witness how the highest elements of human faith—represented by the purity of a nine-year-old blind boy and the universal weight of the Bible—are utilized and dragged into an absurd religious war within the most degraded and mercenary circuits of the earthly world, is the driving force of a dramatic thriller that seeks not to provide easy answers or complacent endings, but to shake the spectator and remind us of an inevitable truth: love requires sacrifice.
