When a near-fatal crash rewires world champion kiteboarder Brandon Scheid’s brain, he and his wife Sensi must rediscover the present to save their family before the impending arrival of their first child. Featuring legendary athletes Laird Hamilton and Kevin Pearce.
Synopsis:
Brandon Scheid and Sensi Graves are kiteboarding’s quintessential power couple—two world champion athletes who have spent over a decade pushing the boundaries of their sport while championing authenticity, community, and purpose. In late 2023, everything changed when Brandon collided with a cliff-face while paragliding and fell hundreds of feet—a near-fatal accident that left him with a severe traumatic brain injury and a broken body. After a Life-Flight rescue and more than a week in a coma, Brandon woke to a new reality, his brain completely rewired; unrecognizable to Sensi, Brandon received news that would change his life again: Sensi was pregnant.
WIND-FALL is not only a character study chronicling Brandon Scheid’s remarkable return to sport and fatherhood, but the film also delves deep into the complex and often misunderstood experience of TBI survivors, their families, and communities at large, exploring the intricacies of this invisible trauma and the profound impact on individuals. By raising awareness and fostering empathy, WIND-FALL aims to enrich the narrative surrounding TBIs, adding to the cultural conversation we see playing out in football, surfing, and beyond.
From Executive Producer Kevin Pearce (The Crash Reel), Wind-Fall features perspectives from world-renowned athletes like Laird Hamilton, leading UCLA neurologist Meeryo Choe, MD, and family. Offering inspiration and hope to those suffering from TBIs, the film explores the radical idea that the disciplined pursuit of “flow,” through extreme sports, may be the very key to reconnecting the brain. Through this lens, WIND-FALL becomes a story not just of survival, but of overcoming adversity and finding healing in the present to restore one's soul.
