YOU RESEMBLE ME won 30+ festival awards in film festivals around the world, garnered the support of leading filmmakers Spike Lee, Spike Jonze, Riz Ahmed, Alma Har'el as Executive Producers, and premiered to rave reviews. The film was included in Roger Ebert and the Washington Post's Top Films of 2022.
Logline: Cultural and intergenerational trauma erupt in this story about two sisters on the outskirts of Paris. After the siblings are torn apart, the eldest, Hasna, struggles to find her identity, leading to a choice that shocks the world. Director Dina Amer takes on one of the darkest issues of our time and deconstructs it in an intimate story about family, love, sisterhood, and belonging.
In a moment where the future of film is in a fragile position, our film journey in making YOU RESEMBLE ME is a case study on how it is possible to overcome the industry’s system barriers and make a film independently. We decided that our best option to give our film the release it deserved was to do it ourselves, eventually releasing the film in November 2022 on over 80 US screens, and selling out our opening weekends in NY and LA.
