Altadena Soils Relief Fund-30 Compost Hubs

THE NEED
With over 13,000 residential structures to remediate, our team has calculated the need to establish 30 community composting sites. Each site will generate enough compost to remediate 600 propertiesl We already have 12 working compost hubs established to date! Help us reach our goal!

Without these critical and unfunded resources, Altadena will face:

• Persistent exposure to toxins such as heavy metals and other organic chemical pollutants;
• Damage to the region’s groundwater and watershed; and no restoration of our gardens, microl farms, and the community’s long agricultural tradition;
• Widening inequities as lower-income families face disproportionate environmental and economic impacts;
• A lost opportunity to gather scientific data that could strengthen fire-recovery planning across California and beyond
