Salud Para Todos Caribe (SPTC) is a nonprofit organization in Costa Rica with a home base in Oregon. Out mission is to broaden access to integrative healthcare in the Talamanca region of Costa Rica through empowerment of traditional medicine modalities and application of more modern therapies as a tool for social justice, community connection and healing for body, mind, spirit and planet.

I'm Rachel, the founder of SPTC, and I strongly believe that everyone should have the same access to choices and quality when it comes to their healthcare. Since our first event in April 2023, we have delivered 382 consults between general preventive medicine, chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy, massage therapy, speech therapy, and naturopathy. We have shared 25 talks, workshops, and roundtable discussions.

We also work to empower local traditional medicine workers and provide a space for them to share their cultural wisdom, traditional medicines and foods.



And this truly is just the beginning!

All of the services we offer aim to fill gaps in the public healthcare system and support vulnerable and low-income communities. We're located on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, an area notoriously underfunded when it comes to public services. Limon is home to many indigenous communities and a large Afro-Caribbean population, both groups that have faced a history of systemic racism and lack of equal access to public services. Poverty, unemployment, geographical barriers (In the case of indigenous communities), lack of health insurance, and inadequate access to clean drinking water are just some of the pertinent issues these populations face that lead to higher rates of chronic diseases, poor maternal and child health, and other inequalities when compared to the rest of Costa Rica.

Along with local services, we plan to make SPTC a site for global public health students and researchers in 2025.

Salud Para Todos Caribe (SPTC) es una organización sin fines de lucro en Costa Rica con base en Oregon. Nuestra misión es ampliar el acceso a la atención médica integral en la región de Talamanca de Costa Rica a través del empoderamiento de las modalidades de la medicina tradicional y las terapias modernas como una herramienta para la justicia social, la conexión comunitaria y la curación del cuerpo, la mente, el espíritu y el planeta.

Soy Rachel, la fundadora de SPTC, y creo firmemente que todos deberían tener el mismo acceso a opciones y calidad en lo que respecta a su atención médica. Desde nuestro primer evento en abril de 2023, hemos brindado 382 consultas entre medicina preventiva general, quiropráctica, acupuntura, fisioterapia, masoterapia y naturopatía. Hemos compartido 25 charlas, talleres y mesas redondas.

También trabajamos para empoderar a los curanderos locales de la medicina tradicional y brindarles un espacio para que compartan su sabiduría cultural, sus medicinas y alimentos tradicionales.

¡Y esto es solo el comienzo!

Todos los servicios que ofrecemos tienen como objetivo llenar los vacíos en el sistema de salud pública y apoyar a las comunidades vulnerables y de bajos ingresos. Estamos ubicados en la costa caribeña de Costa Rica, un área notoriamente insuficiente en lo que respecta a servicios públicos. Limón es el hogar de muchas comunidades indígenas y una gran población afrocaribeña, ambos grupos que han enfrentado una historia de racismo sistémico y falta de acceso equitativo a los servicios públicos. La pobreza, el desempleo, las barreras geográficas (en el caso de las comunidades indígenas), la falta de seguro médico y el acceso inadecuado a agua potable son sólo algunos de los problemas pertinentes que enfrentan estas poblaciones y que conducen a tasas más altas de enfermedades crónicas, pobreza materna e infantil. salud y otras desigualdades en comparación con el resto de Costa Rica.

Junto con los servicios locales, planeamos hacer de SPTC un sitio para estudiantes e investigadores de salud pública global en 2025.
